Thermanit 617 is a TIG rod for welding nickel alloys. It works on boiler components, furnace parts, chemical installations and heat exchangers exposed to aggressive media.
Base materials are UNS N08810, 1.4876, UNS N08800, UNS N06601, NiCr23Fe, UNS N06617 and NiCr23Co12Mo. The rod also suits cladding runs on steel, and you feed the filler into the pool by hand while the arc burns between the tungsten electrode and the weld.
- Classification EN ISO: S Ni 6617 (NiCr22Co12Mo9)
- AWS classification: ERNiCrCoMo-1
- Diameters: 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 / 3.2 mm
Move the pool more slowly than on steel, nickel alloys are sluggish and will not flow to the groove edges on their own. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Match the diameter to the material thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
