Thermanit 690 is a nickel alloy TIG rod for corrosion resistant NiCr alloys of the 690 type. It goes into tanks and pipework made of nickel alloys, and into cladding layers on steel.
Typical base materials are NiCr29Fe and UNS N06690. The rod also suits cladding runs on steel, along with root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face.
- Classification EN ISO: 18274 S Ni 6052 (NiCr30Fe9)
- AWS classification: A5.14 ERNiCrFe-7
- Diameters: 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 mm
Move the pool more slowly than on steel, nickel alloys are sluggish and will not flow to the groove edges on their own. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones suit filling.
