Union AlMg 2,7 Mn 0,8 is a solid MIG/MAG wire. It suits welding aluminium and its alloys and works on frames, tanks, housings and light structures.
Among the parent materials it covers EN AW-5754, AlMg3, EN AW-5454, AlMg3Mn, AlMg2, EN AW-5251 and AlMg2Mn0. The wire runs under shielding gas, fed continuously from a semiautomatic torch.
- Classification EN ISO: 18273 S Al 5554 (AlMg2.7Mn)
- AWS classification: A5.10 / SFA-5.10 ER5554
- Shielding gas: I1, I3
Push the torch and keep the wire path in the feeder short and straight, aluminium coils up easily in the liner. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Match the drive rolls to the wire diameter and check the liner, wire slip shows up at once in an unstable arc. Remove the oxide layer with a stainless steel brush right before welding, aluminium oxide melts far higher than the metal itself.
