Union AlMg 5 is a solid MIG/MAG electrode wire. It suits welding aluminium and its alloys and goes into transport, the food industry and structures built to resist atmospheric corrosion.
Among the parent materials it covers EN AW-5019, AlMg5, EN AW-5754, AlMg3, EN AW-5086, AlMg4 and AlMg4Mn. The wire runs by hand with a semiautomatic torch and on mechanised stations, on frames, tanks, housings and light structures.
- Classification EN ISO: 18273 S Al 5356 (AlMg5Cr(A))
- AWS classification: A5.10 / SFA-5.10 ER5356
- Shielding gas: I1, I3
- Approvals: TÜV (02197), DB (61.132.01), ABS, BV, DNV, LR, CE
Degrease the plate and keep the surface dry, moisture is the main cause of porosity in aluminium welds. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback.
