What Union AlMg 5 Mn solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

Union AlMg 5 Mn is a solid MIG/MAG wire for welding aluminium and its alloys. It works on frames, tanks, housings and light structures.

The wire runs under shielding gas, fed continuously from a semiautomatic torch, and it suits both hand work and mechanised stations.

  • Classification EN ISO: 18273 S Al 5556A (AlMg5Mn1(A))
  • AWS classification: A5.10 / SFA-5.10 ER5556A
  • Shielding gas: I1, I3

Push the torch and keep the wire path in the feeder short and straight, aluminium coils up easily in the liner. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Remove the oxide layer with a stainless steel brush right before welding, aluminium oxide melts far higher than the metal itself.
