Union AlMg 6 Zr is a solid MIG/MAG wire for welding aluminium and its alloys. It works on frames, tanks, housings and light structures.
Among the parent materials it covers EN AW-5019, AlMg5, EN AW-5754, AlMg3, EN AW-5454, AlMg3Mn and AlMg2. The wire is fed continuously from the feeder and welded under shielding gas, from a semiautomatic torch.
- Classification EN ISO: 18273 S Al Z (AlMg6Zr)
- Shielding gas: I1, I3
Degrease the plate and keep the surface dry, moisture is the main cause of porosity in aluminium welds. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. A change of shielding mixture changes the character of the arc, so it is worth a test piece before production.
