Union ER 90S-B3 is a low-alloy, creep resistant TIG rod. It works in power plant, on superheaters, headers and pressure pipework in chromium molybdenum steels.
Base materials include ASTMA 182, ASTMA 213, ASTMA 234, ASTMA 335, 1.7380, 10CrMo9-10 and ASTMA 217. The rod is used on boilers and pressure vessels under statutory inspection, and its deposit resists creep at elevated temperature.
- Classification EN ISO: 21952-A W CrMo2
- AWS classification: A5.28 / SFA-5.28 ER90S-B3
- Shielding gas: I1
- Diameters: 2.0 / 2.4 / 3.2 mm
Watch the hydrogen level, dry consumables and a preheated groove are your basic protection against cold cracking. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Match the diameter to the material thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
