What UTP 6222 Mo stick electrode is used for

UTP 6222 Mo is a basic coated nickel base electrode of the E Ni 6625 / ENiCrMo-3 type. The manufacturer intended it for welding and surfacing nickel alloys, austenitic steels, nickel steels for low temperature service and austenitic to ferritic joints, for example on the materials 2.4856 (NiCr22Mo9Nb), 1.4876 (X30NiCrAlTi32-20) and 1.4529 (X2NiCrMoCu25-20-5).

The deposit is heat resistant and works up to 1000 degrees C, and in an atmosphere low in sulfur it resists scaling up to 1100 degrees C. The creep strength is high. The manufacturer notes that long soaking in the range from 600 to 800 degrees C slightly lowers the ductility of the deposit, so plan any heat treatment with that in mind.

  • Classification EN ISO 14172: E Ni 6625 (NiCr22Mo9Nb)
  • AWS classification A5.11 / SFA-5.11: ENiCrMo-3
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 300, 350 and 400 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (nr 03610), DNV, ABS, BV

Set the current low and keep the arc short, because this alloy does not take overheating or wide weaving. Limit the interpass temperature and let the joint cool between passes. When cladding on unalloyed steel, lay the first layer thin, to limit dilution and keep the corrosion resistance. Clean the groove dry and do not work it with tools previously used on carbon steel.
