UTP 630 is a rutile coated stick electrode of the E 18 8 Mn R / E307-26 type, made for particularly tough, crack resistant joints and surfacings on high strength steels, high manganese steels and dissimilar joints. The manufacturer also names surfacing on parts exposed to impact, pressure and rolling wear, such as rails, curved rails, points and rolls, and tough buffer layers under hard alloys. The main field of work is repair and maintenance in the construction industry.
The figure 26 in the AWS classification marks a high recovery coating with iron powder, which with the single available diameter of 4.0 mm and a length of 450 mm means fast filling of large losses. The austenitic deposit resists corrosion and scaling up to 850 degrees C and work hardens: about 200 HB as welded and about 350 HB once work hardened. The arc is stable, the bead uniform and finely rippled, and the slag comes off well.

A high recovery coating puts a lot of heat in, so on manganese steel take breaks for cooling and do not run long continuous beads. The electrode is mainly for the flat and horizontal positions, take a thinner one for vertical and overhead work. Lay the buffer layers evenly and with full coverage of the substrate, and only then the hard surfacing on top.
