What UTP 65 D stick electrode is used for

UTP 65 D is a rutile coated stick electrode developed for repair and surfacing work with high requirements. The manufacturer recommends it for joining steels of difficult weldability: high manganese, tool, spring and high speed steels, and for dissimilar joints. The corrosion and abrasion resistance of the deposit points this electrode at the repair of machine and drive components, such as gears, cams, shafts, hot cutting knives and hot trimming plates and dies.

The deposit stays stainless and work hardens, and its hardness as welded is about 260 HB. The rutile coating gives a stable arc and spatter free work, and the slag lifts off the bead by itself, so cleaning a run takes a moment. The bead has a fine ripple and a uniform structure. Welding is possible in all positions, on AC or on DC with the electrode positive.

Hold a short arc, and when surfacing lay the beads in one direction and let the part cool between layers, so that you do not temper the core of the component. High manganese steels do not tolerate long spells at high temperature, so work in short sections and cool the joint. Under hard surfacing use this electrode for the buffer layer: it gives an elastic base on which you then lay the high hardness alloy. Store the coating in a dry place and close an opened pack.
