What UTP 7013 Mo stick electrode is used for

UTP 7013 Mo is a semi-synthetic high recovery nickel base electrode of the E Ni 6620 / ENiCrMo-6 type. The manufacturer intended it for nickel steels working at low temperatures, such as X8Ni9. The typical application is tanks and ships for carrying liquefied gases: steels with 9 percent nickel for natural gas and with 5 percent nickel for ethylene.

The metal recovery is 120 percent. The electrode was adapted for work on alternating current in all positions except vertical-down, overhead included. The arc burns steadily, there is little spatter, the slag comes off without trouble and the bead comes out even.

  • Classification EN ISO 14172: Ni 6620 (NiCr14Mo7Fe)
  • AWS classification A5.11 / SFA-5.11: E NiCrMo-6
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 300, 350 and 400 mm

On steels with 9 percent nickel the arc tends to wander magnetically, which is why the manufacturer refined the behaviour on alternating current, and if the arc runs away on DC, switch the power source over. High recovery means more weld metal per pass, so in the overhead position reduce the current, so that the pool does not drip. Keep the interpass temperature low and measure it before every bead. Degrease the edges and dry the groove before welding.
