What UTP 83 FN stick electrode is used for

UTP 83 FN is a basic coated electrode of the ENiFe-Cl type, intended for surfacing and joining all commercial cast iron grades: lamellar grey iron, nodular iron and malleable iron, and for joining these materials to steel and cast steel. The manufacturer recommends it where a high deposition rate is needed.

The electrode melts evenly, the metal transfer is easy to control and the deposit comes out spatter free and with a sound appearance. The deposit is tough and crack resistant, and its hardness is about 190 HB, so you will machine it without trouble with cutting tools.

  • Classification EN ISO 1071: E C NiFe-1 1
  • AWS classification A5.15 / SFA-5.15: ENiFe-CI
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
  • Lengths: 300 and 350 mm
  • Hardness of deposit: 190 HB

Ferronickel takes more stress than pure nickel, but weld the casting in short runs all the same, peening the hot weld. On heavier walls preheat the part and cool it slowly, best in sand or under a mat. Grind the groove to bright metal, because graphite and burnt oil from the surface of a casting give porosity. On direct current connect the electrode to the positive pole.
