UTP A 38 is a TIG rod in a copper alloy of the Cu 1897 type, for welding and braze welding copper and bronzes. It works on fittings, heat exchangers, bearing shells, slide surfaces and the repair of bronze parts.
TIG gives you full control over the heat input and a clean, smooth weld. The deposit is copper based, and the rod suits root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face.
- Classification EN ISO: 24373 S Cu 1897 (CuAg1)
- AWS classification: A5.7 ER Cu
- Diameters: 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 / 3.2 mm
Allow for the high thermal conductivity of copper and preheat heavier sections, otherwise you will not get fusion. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones suit filling. Ventilate the workstation, copper alloys give off fumes that need extraction.
