What WEARstick Dur 250 stick electrode is used for

WEARstick Dur 250 is used for surfacing on parts where a tough and easily machinable deposit is required, such as rails, gear wheels, shafts and other parts on farming and building machinery. It also suits cushion and filler layers on non-alloyed and low-alloyed steels and cast steels. Previously sold as UTP DUR 250.

The classification is E 1-UM-250 to DIN 8555 and E Fe1 to EN 14700. The hardness of the pure deposit is about 270 HB, and one layer on steel with 0.5 percent carbon gives about 320 HB. The deposit stands up well to compression and rolling strain and still machines normally with cutting tools.

  • Classification DIN 8555: E 1-UM-250, EN 14700: E Fe1
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 450 mm
  • Hardness of deposit: 270 HB
  • Former name: UTP DUR 250

This is the softest of the Dur family, so treat it as a base under harder deposits or as material for rebuilding a dimension before machining. Direct or alternating current, and as a basic electrode it needs drying to the maker data sheet. When you rebuild a shaft, run along the generating line and turn the part after each bead, so that it is not pulled to one side. Leave a machining allowance, about one millimetre per side is usually enough.
