What WEARstick Dur 580 stick electrode is used for

WEARstick Dur 580 is a high efficiency stick electrode for hardfacing workpieces in steel, cast steel or high Mn steel, subject at the same time to wear by impact, compression and abrasion. Typical applications are crane wheels, rollers, chain links, sprocket wheels, gliding surfaces, screw conveyors, beaters, edge runners, guide wheels and baffle plates, and in tool shops the repair of cutting knives, stamps, punches, shear blades and forming tools. Previously sold as UTP 670.

The classification is E 6-UM-60 to DIN 8555 and E Z Fe8 to EN 14700. The deposit has a martensitic structure and a hardness of about 58 HRC. The maker states that the electrode can also weld vanadium alloyed tool steels, which helps when you repair dies and tools.

  • Classification DIN 8555: E 6-UM-60, EN 14700: E Z Fe8
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.2 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 350 and 450 mm
  • Hardness of deposit: 58 HRC
  • Former name: UTP 670

High efficiency means faster melting, so watch your travel and do not leave the penetration standing in one place. On high manganese steel work in short beads and cool the part between them, that steel does not take heating above a few hundred degrees. Grind the hard deposit rather than cutting it. When you repair a tool, start with a buffer layer of an austenitic electrode and lay the working layers on top of it.
