WEARstick Mn18 is suitable for build-ups on high Mn steels of the same and similar nature and on carbon steels. The main applications are reconditioning crusher jaws and cones, excavator buckets and railway crossings, and manganese foundries use it to repair casting defects. Previously sold as UTP Chronos 18.
The classification is E Z Fe9 to EN 14700. The deposit has a fully austenitic structure, high toughness and a strong tendency to work harden under pressure and impact. As welded the hardness is about 200 HB, rising to about 45 HRC once work hardened. The colour of the deposit and its corrosion behaviour match high manganese steel, and machining is done by grinding or with tungsten carbide tools.

Hadfield steel turns brittle once it is heated, so work in short beads of a few centimetres and let the part cool between them, until you can touch it with a gloved hand. Do not preheat, here the rule is the opposite of alloy steels. A fresh, hot deposit can be peened with a hammer to take the stresses out. Dry the electrodes to the maker data sheet.
