What WEARstick Tool 40 stick electrode is used for

WEARstick Tool 40 is, thanks to its toughness and heat resistance, ideally suited to surfacings on parts and tools subject to abrasion, compression and impact at elevated temperatures, above all build-ups on forging dies, die cast moulds, rollers, wobbler drives and hot shear blades. It also offers an economic solution for producing new tools, where a base material with an adequate tensile strength is recommended. Previously sold as UTP 73 G4.

The classification is E 3-UM-40-PT to DIN 8555 and E Z Fe3 to EN 14700. The hardness of the pure deposit is 38 to 42 HRC and the heat resistance reaches 550 degrees C. The arc is stable, the metal transfer even, the bead comes out smooth and the slag lifts very easily.

  • Classification EN 14700: E Z Fe3, DIN 8555: E 3-UM-40-PT
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 300, 350 and 400 mm
  • Hardness of deposit: 38-42 HRC
  • Former name: UTP 73 G4

That hardness is a compromise made for impact, so take Tool 40 where the die is knocked about in service and not only rubbed. Preheat the tool to suit the steel grade, weld without breaks and cool slowly in lime or in a furnace. Lay the next layer on slag cleaned off to bare metal. Dry the electrodes to the maker data sheet and keep them in a quiver.
