What WEARstick Tool 50 Co stick electrode is used for

WEARstick Tool 50 Co is suited to heat resistant build-ups on hot working steels particularly exposed to metallic gliding wear and elevated thermal shock stress, such as die cast moulds for brass, aluminium and magnesium, hot pressed mandrels, trimming tools, hot shear blades, extruding tools, forging dies and hot flow pressing tools for steel. Previously sold as UTP 750.

The classification is E 3-UM-50-CTZ to DIN 8555 and E Z Fe3 to EN 14700. The hardness of the pure deposit is 48 to 52 HRC as welded, falls to about 35 HRC after soft annealing at 850 to 900 degrees C, and returns to 48 to 52 HRC after hardening from 1000 to 1150 degrees C in air. The deposit is tempering resistant up to 650 degrees C and scale resisting up to 900 degrees C, it can be nitrided and it is stainless. The slag is self lifting and the bead comes out finely rippled.

  • Classification EN 14700: E Z Fe3, DIN 8555: E 3-UM-50-CTZ
  • Coating: rutile
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
  • Lengths: 250 and 350 mm
  • Former name: UTP 750

The good metal to metal gliding properties make this electrode a material for guides and slides, not only for moulds. Before welding heat the tool to suit the steel grade and work without letting it cool, inclusions usually come from breaks. Cool in a furnace or in lime afterwards. If you plan to nitride, leave a machining allowance before the process.
