What WEARstick Tool Cr17 stick electrode is used for

WEARstick Tool Cr17 is especially suitable for repairs on tool steels, above all cutting tools made of 12 percent chromium cutting steels such as 1.2601, 1.2080, 1.2436, 1.2376 and 1.2379, in broken or fatigued areas. Modification of moulds can also be done, and the maker names stamping and pressing tools in the car industry as the typical field. Previously sold as UTP 665.

The classification is E 5-UM-350-RS Fe7 to DIN 8555. The deposit is equivalent to a high alloyed chromium steel, it is stainless and resistant to cracks and pores. The hardness of the pure deposit is about 250 HB, while one to two layers on chromium cutting steel give 55 to 57 HRC. The arc is smooth, welding is spatter free and the bead comes out finely rippled without undercut.

  • Classification DIN 8555: E 5-UM-350-RS Fe7
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
  • Lengths: 250 and 350 mm
  • Former name: UTP 665

The hardness here comes from mixing with the base, so on chromium tool steel do not lay more than two layers if you want the 55 to 57 HRC. Grind the broken area out to sound metal, heat the tool to suit the steel grade and hold the preheat to the end of the job. Cool slowly afterwards in a furnace or under mineral wool, and bring the part to size by grinding.
