What UTP 63 stick electrode is used for

UTP 63 is a rutile coated stick electrode with a fully austenitic structure, made for repair welding of alloyed structural and heat treated steels. The manufacturer allows joints to austenitic CrNi steels, welding of scale resisting steels for service up to 850 degrees C, and welding of higher carbon materials and high manganese steels, in combination with other steels as well.

The classification is E 18 8 Mn R to EN ISO 3581-A and E Fe10 to EN 14700. The electrode suits surfacing on parts exposed to impact, pressure and rolling wear, such as curved rails, points, crusher and excavator teeth, and crack proof buffer layers under hard alloys. The hardness of the deposit is about 200 HB as welded and rises to about 350 HB once work hardened. The arc is stable, the bead finely rippled, and the deposit resists scaling, rust and cracking.

  • Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 18 8 Mn R 32, EN 14700: E Fe10
  • Coating: rutile
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 3.2 / 4.0 mm
  • Lengths: 350 and 400 mm

This is the first electrode to reach for when repairing a part of unknown composition: a ductile austenitic deposit takes dilution and stress. Under hard surfacing lay one or two buffer layers with it and only then the working layer. On manganese steel work in short runs and let the part cool between them. Keep the coating in dry storage.
