The interconnection cable decides how far from the power source you can work without moving the machine. On structures and at height, 10 or 15 metres changes the layout of the whole station, because the source stays in one place and the feeder goes with you.
Match the conductor cross section to current and length. At 300 A over 10 metres you need at least 70 square millimetres, at 400 A over 15 metres 95 square millimetres. A conductor that is too thin on a long run drops the arc voltage, so the machine never reaches the set parameters and the cable heats along its whole length.
The water cooled version has two extra hoses and needs the couplings and flow direction checked. Connecting it the wrong way round will not damage the machine at once, but it lowers torch cooling, which only shows after tens of minutes of work.
The connectors at both ends have to match your specific machine. Migatronic, Kemppi and industrial machines use their own control plug designs, and pin counts differ even within one brand. Give us the model of the source and the feeder and we will supply a ready cable or build one to size.
With combined control cables, watch the bending radius. Tight coiling breaks signal conductors, which shows up as parameters dropping at random, easily mistaken for an electronics fault.
